*Changing our Genre*

At the beginning of this process it was our aim to create a trailer in the genre of social realism. As we have proceeded in the narrative and planning we believe our trailer will be more suited to being coming-of-age. This is because it will have elements of comedy and drama but at the same time focus on the idea of identity and the confusion/struggle for one boy in realising who he is.

Original Narrative / Vision Sheets

Timelines of Trailers

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

This teaser trailer clearly shows the genre of thriller due to the iconography presented throughout but it also contains elements of horror due to depictions of long, dark paths, knives and the ambiguity of the plot in the trailer.

Elements associated with thriller which are shown include:
  • Photographs being taken
  • Hiding (shown through the darkness and hoodies which characters are seen to be wearing)
  • Car chases
  • Police
  • Phone calls
  • Guns
  • CCTV footage
  • Magnifying glass
  • Large buildings
  • Glasses (these often are symbolic of surveillance)
  • Music with a beat with helps to build up anticipation/ tension
The use of Daniel Craig is also a huge selling point for the genre of this film. His most well known role is as James Bond so by therefore casting him interest is created and this also indicates to the audience that this is a film about a crime of some variation.

Interstellar

Interstellar is primarily a sci-fi film but it also contains elements of action and family drama.
The colour palette which is used contains cool blue hues and earthy tones and the lighting throughout is dark and creates a sense of foreboding.

The voiceover throughout along with the dramatic music help to indicate the genre through phrases such as 'save the world'.

The sci-fi element of the trailer only appears half way through the trailer and before that action is shown with iconography such as fire, car chases, military and family drama is shown by the scenes including Coop and his family.

Teaser Storyboard

I wanted the majority of camera shots to be from the same scene so not a lot of the plot would be revealed. The aim of the teaser trailer is to spark an interest in the audience and I think using the footage I did showed how the film can at points be serious but also contains comedic scenes.
